Ideation and Process: 2 week project

I used a class assignment as an excuse to work on concepts for my Halfmoon story. This assignment had to have 4 restrictions on it, and one of them was no digital media. Was very sad that I really didn't get any color onto any of them. I was itching to break into some more water color stuff.
So the breakdown is basically this:
5 environment studies (done from my own photos)
5 character studies
a character sketch a day for 2 weeks (came up short on that one)

Resulted in a motley assortment of sketches. Didn't really get to where I wanted to be with these, but I did find a few things useful. And well, one with it then.

Figure Drawing: I figure

Another school assignment, this time from my Figure Drawing Class. Basically it was a free for all as long as there are figures in it. I decided to see if I could draw multiply figures in the same setting. The answer? Well sort of. Had a lot of help from the forums at ConceptArt.org, but I couldn't utilize some of the most helpful suggestions without redrawing the entire thing.
Which I unfortunately didn't have time for.
But here is the in progress work from value sketch to end result. I think everyone in the bottom two rows turned out fantastic, while most everyone up top looks a little off. Oh well, onward!

Intro to Illustration: Someone stole my face

This was an assignment for my Intro to Illustration class. We had to to a spot illustration for a magazine article. I took it as an opportunity to draw something fantasy related and practice watercoloring. I also tried to produce a more delicate looking style of inking. I think I succeeded well in that.
Her arm is rather awkwardly positioned, but I didn't quite spend the time on this that I should have. Other things got in the way that week. Still pretty satisfied with this.

Halfmoon Doodles (and some older stuff)

The bulk of what I make for myself is small doodles, quick and easy, that can be accomplished between (and often during) classes. Which is a real shame because this is the kind of stuff I would really like to work on.

This collection of doodles is for a story called Halfmoon that I'm going to start as a web comic next year. It has a lot of vampires and werewolves and has probably fostered my love for them more than should be appropriate. We'll see more of them later since I've tailored a couple of my next assignments to this story.

Oh what the heck, lets have a bunch of images from last year too.

Illustrations: Robins

This is one of my earlier assignments from Intro to Illustration. The goal was to take a state bird, research it and create two black and white greyscale images. I mistook this to be purely black and white (which I'm not particularly good at) and made line art.

It was my first time using a nib pen, and I'm definitely going to continue experimenting with them. The second one I went back too and added value with the intention of coloring it, but with the amount of time I have it wasn't big on my list.

This one I used the state flower of the three states that have the Robin as the state bird as well as playing on there symbolism as messengers of spring.
